The LVS HPLS-CW50 uses a single high power white, red, green or blue LED configured to provide a point source at the fiber input to maximize brightness. This arrangement allows adjustment of the LED focus to illuminate fiber optic guides with diameters from 6 to 12 mm while minimizing non-uniformity in the output.
To stabilize brightness, the LEDs are operated in a constant-current mode that accounts for variations in temperature. Both continuous and strobe operation are supported with muntiple methods of setting brightness and strobe duration.
Active temperature detection assures that the LED does not overheat, which may shorten its life. Overheating is rapidly detected causing immediate shutdown of the LED until the temerature return to a safe level. Triggering of the overheating protection is minimized by fan-cooling of the LED.
Readings for brighness, temperature and fan speed are presented on front-panel numeric displays. Error messages are displayed in case of any failure.
Brightness can be set by external data lines, DIP switches, an RS-232 link or front panel controls. The address of the unit can be set by DIP switches to allow up to 64 sources to be controlled by a single RS-232 port.
For ease of use, the source retains the last brightness setting after five minutes of operation and returns to this setting when power is re-applied.
