Often, cables must be passed through bulkheads or other barriers in a safe and secure manner. The two most common devices used to preform this function are feedthroughs and clamps.
Feedthroughs are double-sided connectors that alow cables, typically of the same type, to be plugged in on opposite sides of the barrier. These are easy to use and allow for fast cable disconnect but require the use of two extra sets of connector contacts in the signal path.
Grips are mechanical devices that hold the cable in psoition as it passes through the barrier. Clamps can provide a seal against water passage. Clamps can be either built into the cable as part of the original assembly or be separate and removable to allow the user to install clamps when and where they are needed.
