OptoMotive specializes in developing and manufacturing demanding optomechatronic systems. With its team of highly qualified engineers and its close links to Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of University of Ljubljana, OptoMotive offers innovative FPGA-based high-performance modular intelligent ready-made cameras and tailor-made FPGA solutions for vision and metrology applications.

Because FPGAs offer massive computational force at a low power and reduced cost, they offer extremely short reaction time in closed loop control systems. For this reason, OptoMotive has become expert in combining user-programmable FPGAs with the high speeds and resolutions offered by newer image sensors.

OptoMotive’s concept of joining large FPGAs, high-performance imaging sensors and image processing within the FPGA, positions the company’s cameras Cameleon, Camelopard and Velociraptor at the forefront of new vision applications and provides a clear path ahead into the future.

After years of experience and extended work with research and development projects in Laboratory of Optodynamics and Laser Applications at Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of University of Ljubljana, Ales Gorkic, Ph.D., in 2001, had to purchase a smart camera  for his scanner machine project. Unable to find a smart camera that met both the technical needs and funding restrictions, Dr. Gorkic decided to build one.

He started with exploring his needs and perspectives and the current market offerings, looking for the most powerful components, including some that had not previously been considered as possible solutions.   In a few months, Dr. Gorkic built a camera based on an FPGA that provided a large image sensor with a highly-efficcient programmable core for image processing inside the camera.

The camera Dr Gorkic built attracted some attention so he invited selected development partners and customers to join him. Thanks to an extensive and fruitful collaboration with highly qualified experts, OptoMotive was formed in 2008 and the first product, the Cameleon FPGA-based smart camera, was introduced.  Cameleon became a foundation for succeeding generations of Optomotive cameras. Camelopard, more sophisticated and even more innovative than Cameleon was developed a year later.

In preparation for the next product, Dr. Gorkic dug deeply into the camera oferingd for machine vision and found out that while a great variety of cameras were available there were still significant unmet customer needs. Some existing products offered either fast picture acquisition or huge FPS rate or fast communication protocol, but none provided customer-programmable image processing or image compression inside the camera. This encouraged the team to undertake a year of intensive development work. Today, OptoMotive can proudly offer its latest and most powerful FPGA-based camera family - The Velociraptor.

Velociraptor - high-frame-rate, fully-programmable FPGA-based camera using 2.2 and 4.2 megapixel CMOS monochrome or color sensors from CMOSIS.  The Velociraptor has a gigabit Ethernet PoE interface and a Xilinx Spartan 6LX 15 million gate FPGA.  Complete source code and a library of pre-packaged image processing cores are available to permit users to fully integrate their processing reqirements with camera control.  The special-purpose model Velociraptor HS includes a real-time JPEG compressor to permit full-speed operation of the CMOSIS sensors over GigE.

This is the standard limited warranty offered by Optomotive.  Alternative Vision will assist in warranty claims as described in the Terms of Sale posted on this website.  Do not return products directly to Optomotive.

Warranty period - The original OptoMotive Product you have purchased is covered by a warranty of 12 months. The warranty period begins on the date of purchase of brand new, unused products by the first end user. Please retain your delivery note or your invoice as proof of purchase.

General terms and conditions - As a Producer and Seller, OptoMotive mechatronics Ltd (Hereinafter referred to as “OptoMotive”) will handle all warranty related affairs and shall satisfy OptoMotive warranty obligations by remedying any material or manufacturing faults free of charge at OptoMotive discretion either by repair or by exchanging individual parts or the entire appliance.
