Technical Reference

Deciding which products in these pages are suitable for use in a particular system or application often requires careful consideration and calculation.  This section is intended to provide some help.

In this section are reference materials on lenses, image sensors, materials, optical characteristics, interfaces and other topics of interest to those doing technical imaging.  To see the list, pull down the Technical Reference menu.

For more extensive technical information on individual products, please see the websites of the various manufacturers.

Numerous websites offer additional material on optics and imaging.

We like these but don't make any representations about the accuracy of their content.  Most of them concentrate their efforts in North America.

Tutorial Websites

Many websites have been put together mainly for instructional use.  Some of these have become quite extensive and sophisticated.

  • Probably the most extensive is hosted by the Magnet Lab at Florida State University.  You can see their offerings here.  These include not only optics and imaging but light, microscopy and electricity and magnetism.

Trade Magazines

A variety of trade magazines are now offered covering both general and market-specific topics.  This is a sampling.  Many others covering security, consumer products, defense and scientific application are also available for those interested in more selective information.  Many technical and trade organization also publish magazines corresponding to their interests.  Information about those can be obtained by going to the websites of the organizations listed below.

Technical and Trade Organizations

The organizations exist for the benifit of either practitioners or vendors (or sometimes both) in associated technologies and markets.  Some of them have relatively narrow coverage while others attempt to span very large swathes.  Many of these organizations offer publications to members and host trade shows, usually open to the general public.  Some of these organization only host trade shows that aren't really duplicated elsewhere.  There are literally hundreds of potentially relevant trade shows.  To see the ones where we exhibit our products go to the Event page on our main website at www.alt-vision.com.
